FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy?

Therapy is a process of exploration, self-care, and change/acceptance where you and the therapist work together to address the issues important to you.  A therapeutic environment is provided for you to openly and honestly discuss items of concern in a non-judgmental, supportive, and challenging space. I may offer feedback and practices meant to help you achieve the goals you develop at the outset of therapy. My style of therapy is culturally informed, client centered, strengths based, and recovery oriented utilizing cognitive behavioral and mindfulness based strategies.

Is my info kept private?

Effective therapy is based on trust. Your information will be held in the strictest of confidence. In most cases, your consent is needed before I release any information about you. However, there are a few instances when I may be legally obligated to disclose information.  These cases include:

  • If you present as a danger to your self or others.
  • In cases where child abuse or elder/dependent abuse is reported and suspected to be occurring.
  • If mandated by court, law, or other legal agencies (e.g. court order, Patriot Act)

Further details can be found on my Privacy Practices document on the Forms page.

How much do services cost?

My current individual therapy fee is $125 per 50-minute session. I do provide a few sliding-scale therapy slots for students and others with limited income.  Feel free to inquire on availability.

Fees for other services (e.g. training and consultation) vary. Please contact me for details.

How can I pay for services?

I accept payment by cash, check, card (through Paypal), as well as general payments via Paypal.  Payment is due prior to service and can be completed online.

For those looking to use their health insurance benefits for therapy services, my participation on different insurance panels varies.  If I am not currently an in-network provider for your insurance, I will gladly provide receipts and the necessary forms in order for you to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company.  You will need to pay out of pocket in these cases and I encourage you to first check with your insurance company to make certain this arrangement is available to you. Currently, I take Anthem Blue Cross and Community Health Group, but can also work with other PPO insurances. However, please note that my participation on insurance panels may change, so please contact me for the most current information.

What if I can’t attend my scheduled session?

Missed appointments impact both of us.  Please make sure to call to cancel appointments with at least 24 hours notice, otherwise you may be charged a fee for missed appointments.
